Very little disassembly. I left the forks on the bike-
I raised the front end (need to use a lift that does not load the forks).
Removed the front wheel (need a gigantic hex socket for the front axle).
Drained the fork oil by loosening the bolt at the bottom of each for leg (it holds the internals in place).
Opened the fork caps and pulled out the internals (I used a little telescoping magnet from the autoparts store to reach inside the fork tubes and pull up the parts I couldn't reach-springs and sleeves, I think).
Dropped in new cartridges.
Re-tightened the bolt at the bottom of each fork.
Filled with oil to proper height (You'll need to buy or make a simple tool to suck the oil down to the correct level from the top of the fork- I used my mityvac and a plastic tube. A large syringe with a tube on the end will work too).
Drop in new springs.
Bolt new fork caps onto new cartridge rods and tighten locknut- (make sure these are on tightly- one of mine later spun itself off a little ways and I had to open and re-tighten)
Screw down new fork caps onto forks.
Reattach wheel.
Measure/set sag, rebound, and compression damping.
Done!
